NEW PRINCIPAL IN JERSEY SHORE
The Jersey Shore School District has a new High School Principal. The School Board last night unanimously voted to hire current senior assistant High School Principal Steven Keen as the High School Principal as well as the district’s director of career and technical education. His job will be effective on July 1st. Keen will be paid close to $105,000 dollars for the principals job and another $7700 for the CTE job for a total of $112, 667 dollars. He replaces Reed Mellinger who retired this year after serving 24 years with the district.
THREE CHARGED WITH SELLING HEROIN
Williamsport police arrested three at a city home on Sunday afternoon, all charged with dealing heroin. Police have charged 24 year old Larry Thomas Jr, of Williamsport as well as 19 year old Noah Walker and 28 year old Corey Williams, both of Philadelphia with possession with intent to deliver six bags of heroin and related offenses for the sale of the drug at Thomas home. All three were arraigned and jailed in Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail each.
LEVEE RECERTIFICATION ON THEIR MINDS
Talks continue as to what to do with the levee recertification and repairs in the Williamsport area. At a meeting yesterday with city and Lycoming County officails, engeneers placed the cost the recertification process for the levee which protects the city, South Williamsport, Loyalsock Township and Old Lycoming Township at $14 million dollars. Engineers say that one option to fund the project is to form a municipal authority to possibly assess fees in water and sewer bills. The Levee received an uaaceeptable rating in 2015 due to insuffiecient inspection recrods for cross pipes and relief wells.
MAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULT
A 22 year old homeless man was jailed on Saturday night following a disturbance at a city restaurant. Around 11pm on Saturday, police say they arrested 22 year old Lex Call for simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct at Disalvo’s restaurant at 341 E. Fourth Street in the city. Call allegedly punched an employee there in the face, causing that person to bleed profusely. That employee was treated at UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport Regional Medical Center for his injuries. Call was arraigned and jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail.
DEVELOPER TO APPEAL
A building developer who wants to raze the former Children’s Discovery Workshop Building and YMCA Dorm in the city of Williamsport will soon appeal city council’s decision to save that building in Lycoming County Court. Herman Logue had bought the building from Dan Klingerman, developer of the rest of the property and had plans to tear it down for Green Space ther,e but council decided against tearing it down, instead for see if can be developed. Klingerman the former owner offered to buy the building back and sell it to councilperson Liz Miele for a dollar who wants to preserve it.
