ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION CONTINUES
State police in Montoursville are investigating an incident in Clinton Township in which a man struck one vehicle, continued driving and then crashed his car a mile further down the road. Around 8:20 on Wednesday evening, a pick-up truck struck another on Route 405 in front of the Jersey Shore State Bank Branch. The driver who has not been named continued driving before he then went into a ditch and a front yard a mile farther down the road. He was first unresponsive and life flight was called, but he came to, and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Police continue their investigation. The driver of the other pick up was not injured in the crash.
TEEN INJURED IN CRASH
A crash on Tuesday in Fairfield Township sent a 16 year old teen to the hospital with unspecified injuries. The accident happened on Radio Club Road around 3:30 on Tuesday when the teen lost control of her vehicle, going off the roadway, striking two trees and overturning on it’s driver’s side. She was transported to UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport Regional Medical Center. Her condition was not reported.
COMMISSIONER VOTE TO ELIMINATE POSITION
During their meeting yesterday, Lycoming County Commissioners as expected voted to eliminate an administration position in the county’s collections department. That position has been vacant since last August and was made expendable due to recent court decisions on collections of court fines, but commissioners decided to eliminate the positon from the county payroll which will save Lycoming County anywhere from $35,000 to $50,000 a year. In addition, Commissioners honored the fiscal services staff during their meeting which for the 27th consecutive year, has earned the state’s highest honor in governmental accounting and financial reporting.
CITY MAN ARRESTED FOR SALE OF COCAINE
A Williamsport man was arrested this week by the Lycoming County Narcotics Enforcement unit for the sale of cocaine on three separate occasions within the city. 59 year old Patrick Houseknecht has been charged with possession with intent to deliver as well as criminal use of a communications facility and conspiracy. He is accused of the sales of $80 worth of cocaine three times between February 28th and this past Tuesday at his home. He was arraigned and jailed in Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $90,000 bail.
MAN JAILED FOR SALE OF CRACK COCAINE
A Williamsport man is jailed in lieu of $125,000 dollars bail for drug sales on five separate occasions within the city between January 31st and March 13th. The County’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit has charged 20 year old Saladin Brown for the sales of $520 dollars worth of crack cocaine on those occasions with the city of Williamsport. He was arraigned on charges of possession with intent to deliver and related counts and jailed in Lycoming County Prison.
SEARCH FOR MISSING MAN CONTINUES
State police in Towanda say they continue their search for a Troy man who went missing last Friday. Police say 77 year old Ronald Young was last seen last Friday between 11am and 3pm waking in Troy in the vicinity of the C&N Bank and Dollar General. He is believed to have been wearing dark pants, a dark vest or coat, a flannel shirt and a ball cap. Anyone who may have seen Young after Friday are asked to contact State police in Towanda at 570-265-2186. Persons and businesses are urged to check video surveillance and anyone with game or wildlife cameras are encouraged to check those devices as he was known to take frequent walks in the woods.
WORK ON TWO CITY OWNED BUILDINGS
Work is getting ready to take place at two City of Williamsport owned buildings. The Williamsport Sun Gazette reports this morning that a proposed ramp to allow for easier access to the front of City Hall off of West Fourth Street is in the design stage. Mayor Campana reports the cost which will include some other work there is about $500,000 dollars which would be paid for in the form of a bond. Also, city fire headquarters is expected to undergo about $100,000 dollars in renovations.
UNION COUNTY THE HEALTHIEST
An area county has once again been named the healthiest county in Pennsylvania. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, a charitable organization in New Jersey focused on health has proclaimed Union County the healthiest of the state’s 67 counties. It is the fifth time since 2011 that Union County has topped the rankings. Criteria for the rankings include health behaviors, physical environment, social and environmental factors and access to clinical care.
NEW PRESIDENT AT MANSFIELD U.
Mansfield University has a new president. The State System of Higher Education Board of Governors have unanimously voted to select Charles E. Patterson as the 28th president at the University in Tioga County. Patterson will take over on July 1st after serving for 17 years as a senior advisor for executive outreach in the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Federal Student Aid. Officials say Patterson’s experience in the academic field will serve him and the college well.
