PROPANE LEAK SHUTS DOWN ROUTE 118 IN LAIRDSVILLE
Route 118 in Lairdsville was shut down for a short time Tuesday after damage from heavy storms caused a propane leak at Darwin Diagnostic Center. According to the Sun Gazette, a carport roof blow off the structure and resulted in it striking a 100 gallon propane tank and snapping off the valve causing a leak. Unityville and Lairdsville Fire Authorities were called and were able to engage an emergency switch for the tank stopping the escaping gas. Officials say the tank was 60 percent full and about 20 percent of the gas leaked. Nearby residents were warned to avoid turning on their gas or lighting candles or cigarettes while the gas cleared and authorities from Superior Plus Propane repaired the tanks.
MAN WHO DEFRAUDED 9/11 MEMORIAL COMMISSION IN COURT FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES
The man charged for defrauding the 9/11 Memorial Ride Coalition who is now also facing child pornography possession charges was in court yesterday for his preliminary hearing. According to the Sun Gazette, 37 year old Michael Allen Ritter faces six counts of possession of child sexual abuse material after authorities discovered pornographic images in his phone during the search over the previous theft charges. A Lycoming County judge denied the request of Ritter’s defense attorney to make him eligible for pre-trial services meaning he could be released without posting the 100 thousand dollar bail that was set. No trial date has been scheduled.
GROUP FOR FAMILIES DEALING WITH ADDICTION
Friends and family members of those who are dealing with substance use or addiction in Lycoming and Clinton counties, can take advantage of a free in-person 8-week course that will be taught by a BALM Family Recovery Life Coach. JERSEY SHORE COMMUNITY DAY SUNDAY
Community Day is coming to Jersey Shore Sunday May 4th from 2 til 4pm to allow residents to gather and get to know others in the community who are passionate about seeing positive change. According to the Sun Gazette, Community Day is hosted by the members of the Rivertown Committee Preservation League and is at Richmond Park on South Broad Street. Local organizations and vendors will be on hand along with a message board to share ideas. The Rivertown Committee works with the Borough of Jersey Shore to enhance and create outdoor recreational areas and are always looking for new volunteers. LYCOMING COUNTY DA OFFICE CAN PROSECUTE MAN WHO SHOT BROTHER IN LAW IN WILLIAMPORT
In the case of Kenneth R. Michaels, the CEO who admits he fatally shot his brother-in-law, John Roskowski, inside a Williamsport business in 2023, the state Superior Court has ruled that the case will remain with the Lycoming County district attorney’s office and not be transferred to the state attorney general. According to PennLive, District Attorney Thomas A. Marino had recused himself from the case last August, but now First Assistant District Attorney Martin L. Wade and the rest of the office are to remain in the case with conditions. Michaels was looking for permission to appeal Judge Ryan Tira’s order saying the screening requirements to keep Marino from the case are unenforceable. Michaels remains incarcerated without bail.
MILLHEIM MAN ARRESTED FOR THREATINING A MAN WITH A KNIFE
A Millheim man who aggressively confronted another man with a knife in a local store parking lot on March 20th about the victim’s car’s muffler allegedly causing a lot of noise, has been charged with terroristic threats. According to North Central PA dot com, 62 year old Arthur Earnest was agitated and pulled a kniufe on the man who called police to the scene. Earnest was interviewed by police at his home where they seized the alleged weapon which was ID’d by the victim. Earnest’s preliminary hearing is June 11th.
QUICK BIRTH CERTIFICATES AVAILABLE IN PENNSYLVANIA
Getting a birth certificate in Pennsylvania will be easier soon. According to the PA Departments of Labor & Industry, the Department of Health, and PA CareerLink, a new pilot program was kicked off in Lancaster County this week and will be soon be available for PA residents who need a copy of their birth certificate for employment, housing or a REAL ID. Only Pennsylvanians will be able to get their documents on the spot, reinforcing the Shapiro Administration’s commitment to investing in the workforce and eliminating common barriers to employment. This service is set to roll out at more PA CareerLink® events across the Commonwealth later this year. This program is 100 percent supported by federal Wagner-Peyser. CORGI FUNDRAISER IN CATAWISSA IN JUNE
Catawissa Hose Company #1 has announced a Corgi Race and Dog Meet Up to raise funds for the fire department for June 28th. According to their social media page, the event will be at the fire department on South 4th Street in Catawissa and will feature food trucks vendors and raffles. Humans can attend for free, but there will be a 5 dollar fee for all dogs at the event and a 10 dollar fee if your dog wants to race that day. There is no registration with sign-ups for the race to be held at the door. Corgis are known to run at full speed around 25 miles per hour.

A man fell from the 21-foot Clemente Wall in right field at PNC Park during Wednesday night’s game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs. Pittsburgh Public Safety, reported late Wednesday that the man was in critical condition and that police were investigating. Right after Andrew McCutchen hit a two-run double in the seventh inning to put the Pirates ahead 4-3, players began waving frantically for medical personnel and pointing to the man, who had fallen onto the warning track. The fan was tended to for approximately five minutes before he was transported to Allegheny General Hospital.
