POLICE ARREST MAN WHO FLED ACCIDENT NEAR MEMORIAL AVENUE
A motorcyclist who led police on a short chase in Williamsport, was arrested once police caught up with him on Wednesday afternoon. According to the Sun Gazette, Jason Yahn formerly of McGill Hollow, ignored Williamsport police east of Memorial Avenue and Grier Street before he crashed into a stopped car and the back of a pick up truck there before fleeing. Shortly after, officers apprehended Yahn, who is wanted on several bench warrants, and took him into custody. He was charged with flight to avoid apprehension and additional drug charges after he was found to be in possession of a bag of methamphetamine. He’s in jail in lieu of 50 thousand dollars bail.
SUNBURY MAN FACING CRUELTY TO ANIMIAL CHARGES
A man from Sunbury is facing animal cruelty charges after an altercation with a neighbor who told police his dog was kicked in the face. According to North Central PA dot com, police reports say 42 year old George Albert Kee approached the victim’s home and allegedly threatened him and kicked the dog before the victim fled the scene in a car with the animal. Kee allegedly threw a garbage can at the vehicle as it was leaving. Kee told police the dog was aggressive and bit him, but police did not see a wound, and upon interviewing the victim at the home they found the dog to be unaggressive. Kee was charged with animal cruelty, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and more and is incarcerated in lieu of 10 thousand dollars bail.
POLL WORKERS NEEDED IN CLINTON COUNTY
There are vacancies for poll workers in Clinton County for this election cycle. According to the Clinton County Election Office, officials are looking for help in Mill Hall Borough, Dunnstable Township, South Renovo Borough and the City of Lock Haven. Poll Workers must be a registered voter in Clinton County and are not allowed to be a candidate who is running for a public office. AI SECURITY SOFTWARE INSTALLED AT SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT SCHOOL
South Williamsport School District has installed an AI-based gun detection software called ZeroEyes this week. According to North Central PA dot com, South is the third area school to install the program; Williamsport and Montoursville also use it. Officials say Zero Eyes adds a new layer of protection for schools, enabling faster responses to potential gun-related threats. Superintendent Dr. Eric Briggs said he immediately recognized the potential of the technology to keep students and staff safe in the case of threats and through a School Safety Focus Group acquired a Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) grant to bring the service to South Williamsport.
MAN STEALS POLICE TIMING DEVICE THINKING IT WAS SCRAP
A Middleburg man who thought a police speed timing device was scrap metal and allegedly put it in his van, was charged with felony theft by unlawful taking April 24th. According to North Central PA dot com, a Middleburg police officer who had placed the device on the sidewalk in front of 205 N. Main St, observed Nicholas Norman pull in to the parking lot area nearby and when he left, the device was gone. Norman was seen a short time later where the officer observed the device sitting in his van with a “Property of Middleburg Police” sticker on it. Norman is also facing receiving stolen property charges and bail was set at 5 thousand dollars unsecured.
MOTHER WHO DRUGGED CHILD BEFORE SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN COURT
A Williamsport mother, who drugged her daughter beginning in 2020 so her boyfriend could allegedly commit sexual assault, was in court this week and the judge has held the one child endangerment charge for trial so far. According to North Central PA dot com, the victim’s mother, 26 year old Ashely Rae Kane remains free on 75 thousand dollars bail for the sexual assault crimes that were discovered after the girl’s suicidal and self-harming behavior were noticed by authorities and an investigation began. The boyfriend, Steven Guthrie, was charged March 14th for the recent accusations of aggravated indecent assault of a child, indecent assault without consent, indecent assault of a person less than 13, and more. He had previously served time for other sexual assault crimes. Guthrie’s bail was denied.
CURRENT STATE POLICE SHOTGUNS TO BE PHASED OUT
The shotguns used by the Pennsylvania State police are to be phased out in favor of .223-caliber rifles. According to a state police spokesperson, the new rifle offers a longer effective range. The change is in addition to the similar move they made last year adopting the Walther PDP 9mm as their standard sidearm. State police authorities in Harrisburg say the agency continually reassesses its equipment and is following a broader trend updating the weaponry used by the officers.
MEET ONE OF THE “ROSIE THE RIVETERS” IN LEWISBURG
One of the original “Rosie the Riveters”, women who helped build bombers in World War II, will visit the Campus Theatre in Lewisburg on Saturday, May 18. According to organizers, 99-year-old Mae Krier will speak at 1:00pm. Krier worked on B-17 and B-29 bombers for Boeing starting at age 17 and has advocated for women’s contributions for years, receiving the Congressional Gold Medal for her effort. The event will include a reception, photo and autograph opportunities, with pay as you wish admission.

* It was announced yesterday that the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2028 Olympics and Paralympic Games will be hosted at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, according to “LA28”.
* For the first time in modern Olympics history, the opening ceremonies will be held at two venues at the same time. but the LA Coliseum will be the only location for the finale.
* This marks the third time that LA Coliseum has hosted the summer games (1932, 1984) and the first time for SoFi Stadium, which opened in 2020.
