MAN ILLEGALLY LIVING IN COLUMBIA COUNTY INDICTED
A 30-year-old Honduran national living illegally in Bloomsburg has been indicted by a federal grand jury for firearm possession. Authorities say Nelson Geovany Pineda-Chacon was found with a 9mm Beretta handgun and ammunition on May 7, 2024, while living unlawfully in Columbia County. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Pineda-Chacon is prohibited from owning firearms under federal law. The case was investigated by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations. If convicted, Pineda-Chacon faces up to 15 years in prison and a possible fine.
FAMILY PET PERISHES IN FIRE
A kitchen fire broke out around 10 a.m. Monday at a home on 2230 Reed Street in Loyalsock Township. Everyone inside made it out safely, including a dog, and firefighters rescued a cat—but sadly, a second cat did not survive. Crews arrived to find thick black smoke pouring from the home. The fire was under control in about 15 minutes and was contained to the kitchen, but smoke and heat damaged the rest of the house. Damage is estimated at up to $50,000. Multiple area departments assisted in the response.
GATER CAPER
A man has been sentenced for stealing a John Deere Gator from a Bradford county residence. According to NorthcentralPA.com, Thomas Michael Tucker Ham, 27, of Warren Center was sentenced to a minimum of eight months in the Bradford County Correctional Facility as well as a $500 fine. In October of last year, Pennsylvania State Police responded to a report of a broken down Gator near Huddle Road in Windham Township. Ham was attempting to fix the Gator. Police recognized the vehicle from a recent report of two Gators being stolen from a residence in Pike Township. When photos of the stolen Gators were compared to the Gator alongside the road, they were found to be a “direct match,” police reported.
JAMBOREE RETURNS TO BLOOMSBURG
The Steve Shannon Tire 4-Wheel Jamboree returns to Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania from July 11th through the 13th at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds. HIGH SPEED CHASE RESULTS IN CRASH
A high-speed police chase late Tuesday morning ended in a crash on Lycoming Creek Road in Old Lycoming Township. State troopers say the driver slammed his Hyundai Elantra into a concrete barrier after fleeing from his home in Loyalsock Township. He suffered head and facial injuries and was taken to UPMC Williamsport. The man, whose name has not been released, is a person of interest in an aggravated assault case in the Muncy area. Charges are pending. Emergency crews from multiple agencies responded, and traffic was rerouted around the crash scene.
WOMAN IN PRISON FOR ASSAULT BY MOTOR VEHICLE
An Ulster woman has been sentenced for using her car to run over a man and his motorcycle following an argument. According to NorthcentralPA.com, Ariel Daugherty-Wheeler, 31, received 8 to 23 months in the Bradford County Prison, plus six years of probation and a $1,000 fine for aggravated assault by motor vehicle. The October incident left the victim with head injuries and facial bruising. Daugherty-Wheeler also owes nearly $1,700 in restitution. She must undergo mental health treatment and drug and alcohol testing during probation or face harsher penalties.
ANKLE MONITOR LEADS AUTHORITIES TO SUSPECT
An ankle monitor helped police track down a retail theft suspect in the Lewisburg area. According to NorthcentralPa.com 41-year-old Kristen “Kris” Levy was caught on video stealing a bottle of vodka from the Fine Wine & Good Spirits store on North 10th Street on June 7. Levy’s ankle monitor confirmed their location at the time of the theft. Police say Levy has five prior retail theft convictions. They later admitted to taking the vodka for a birthday celebration. A preliminary hearing is set for August 14.
HUGHESVILLE WELCOMES LYCOMING COUNTY FAIR
The Lycoming County Fair starts today in Hughesville, continuing a tradition that dates back to 1870.
