REPRESENTATIVE FLICK SUPPORTS NEW CUSTODY LAW
A new Pennsylvania law is streamlining child custody cases — cutting the number of legal factors courts consider from 19 to 12. According to the Sun Gazette, the change, signed by Governor Josh Shapiro, includes a key amendment from Rep. Jamie Flick of South Williamsport, requiring courts to give anyone named in a custody case a written copy of those factors within 30 days of any changes. Flick, a longtime advocate for 50/50 shared custody, says the move increases fairness and transparency. The new law, now Act 11 of 2025, takes effect later this summer.
SUNBURY SET TO PURCHASE BLIGHTED PROPERTY
The former Turkey Hill store on Front Street in Sunbury will soon be city-owned. City officials say ownership is nearly finalized after repeated failed attempts to reach the listed owner, Pamela Gartin. Sunbury Mayor Josh Brosious says the move marks Sunbury’s first major step in fighting blight and urges other property owners to work with the city before issues escalate.

The other driver, 63 year old Irvin Koons of Hegins, died weeks later. Weaver, who was critically injured and recently discharged from a nursing facility, is also facing DUI and assault charges. Bail was set at $100,000 unsecured due to his medical condition.

The BMW’s passenger had to be extracted from the vehicle. All four people were taken to Geisinger with non-life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
NEW PROVISIONAL BALLOT ENVELOPES INTRODUCED
The Pennsylvania Department of State has redesigned provisional ballot envelopes to reduce voter errors and ballot rejections. According to the Secretary of the Commonwealth, the new layout highlights key signature areas and simplifies instructions for voters and poll workers. In 2023, nearly 30% of provisional ballots were rejected—mostly due to incomplete or unsigned envelopes. The new design, tested with input from counties statewide, will debut in the 2025 general election. Grant funds will be available to help counties make the switch.
