CONTROVERSY OVER PURPLE HEART MEMORIAL LOCATION
The Purple Heart Memorial in Lewisburg was recently moved about 50 feet to a more visible spot along Market Street, but its long-term home remains undecided. T-Ross Brothers Construction donated time and equipment to relocate the monument earlier this month as part of Hufnagle Park’s $2.95 million renovation. However, some members of the local Military Order of the Purple Heart want the memorial moved nearly 10 miles to Mifflinburg’s community park, while others oppose another move. For now, the memorial remains at Hufnagle Park next to the flagpole as officials consider its future. A plan for the rededication ceremony for the memorial is in the works.
