ENDANGERMENT CHARGES FILED AFTER FATHER OVERDOSES AT HOME WITH CHILD
A Mifflinburg man is facing multiple charges after police say he overdosed while his 6-year-old child was home. According to North Cetnral PA dot com, Officers were called to a Mill Street apartment on June 27, where they found 39-year-old Trevor Fessler unresponsive on the bathroom floor with a syringe beside him. Fessler’s father who was coming to pick uyp the child, discovered Fessler after forcing entry. Police say the man was revived with Narcan. Afterdrug paraphernalia was found throughout the apartment, Fessler was charged with child endangerment, reckless endangerment, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
DATA CENTER PLANS IN MONTOUR COUNTY
Talen Energy is seeking to rezone 1,300 acres of land in northern Montour County from agricultural to industrial use to build a large data center, according to county officials. According to North Central PA dot com, Planning Director Greg Molter says the proposal, filed in August, may include an electrical substation to power the facility. The project has sparked community concern, with residents flooding meetings and letters over potential effects on property values and rural character. Molter says the Planning Commission will review Talen’s request and public input at its October 15 meeting before making a recommendation to county commissioners, who must decide by late December.
TROUT RUN ROADS CLOSED THIS MONTH FOR BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION
A major bridge replacement project continues in Trout Run, Lycoming County, with a full closure of Route 14 taking effect the week of October 13. PennDOT says the road will be shut down between the Route 15 north exit ramp and Trout Run Mountain Road through October 27, as crews remove a temporary connector and build new bridge approaches. Several detours using Lycoming Creek Road, Beautys Run Road, and Route 973 will guide drivers around the closure. The $3.3 million project is expected to wrap up in November, weather permitting.
NEW PROGRAM TO HELP KIDS AND FAMILIES IN NEED
The South Williamsport School District has launched its “Mounties Matter” initiative to stock a care closet for students and families in need. Superintendent Dr. Eric Briggs says the effort addresses basic needs like food, clothing, and hygiene items, while board member Cathy Bachman helped create an Amazon Wish List of essentials. Half of the 435 items have already been donated, with strong support from community members and alumni. Anyone wishing to help can find the list at amazon.com. MUNCY INMATE CHARGED AFTER ASSAULTING CO
A corrections officer was injured after being kicked by an inmate at SCI Muncy. According to North Central PA dot com, state police say 22-year-old Harley Olicia Grace Cutshall-Gates struck the officer while resisting staff in the Secure Residential Treatment Unit. The officer hit a cell door and wall, suffering a liver injury and head trauma. Video confirmed the assault, according to investigators. Cutshall-Gates faces new charges, including aggravated assault and assault by a prisoner. She’s scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Judge Kirsten Gardner on October 24.
1.5 MILLION DOLLARS IN DAMAGE AT MUNCY HOMES
Damage is estimated at $1.5 million after fire tore through part of the Muncy Homes production facility early Wednesday morning in Lycoming County. According to the News Item, crews were called to the plant on Route 442 in Muncy Creek Township around 4:15 a.m., where Fire Chief Scott Delany says the arrived to heavy smoke pouring from the building. Investigators say the blaze started in an area used to assemble drywall and roof trusses, and it was brought under control within 30 minutes. No injuries were reported.

RENOVO CROWNED FLAMING FOLIAGE FESTIVAL QUEEN
The 76th Annual Flaming Foliage Festival in Renovo wrapped up with Miss Hughesville, Madelyn Gordner, crowned as the 2025 Flaming Foliage Festival Queen. According to the Record Online, the Hughesville senior said she loved the close-knit community of Renovo and was grateful for the unforgettable experience. Despite some overnight rain Saturday, crowds turned out in full force for the celebration. Other honorees included Miss Saint Mary’s Olivia Lenze as first runner-up, Miss North-Penn-Mansfield Elena Hazelton as second runner-up, and Breanna Nixon of Saint John Neumann was named Miss Congeniality.

Penn State has fired coach James Franklin after 12 seasons, the school announced Sunday.
Franklin is owed more than $49 million, according to his contract. It’s the second-biggest buyout in college football history behind only Jimbo Fisher’s $76 million buyout from Texas A&M.
Associate head coach Terry Smith will serve as the Nittany Lions’ interim head coach for the remainder of the season with no other staff changes expected at Penn State.
