BAIL REVOKED FOR ACCUSED HOMICIDE ACCOMPLICE
A Williamsport woman accused of helping cover up a double murder caused a disturbance at a local Day of Remembrance event for homicide victims—an appearance that landed her back in jail. According to North Central PA dot com, Prosecutors say 45-year-old Sandy Camille Perez showed up at the Angel Families United vigil in Brandon Park on September 25, despite strict bail conditions barring her from any contact with the victims’ families. Witnesses testified that Perez, who had bedazzled her ankle monitor, refused to leave when asked and was seen speaking to family members of the victims in her case. Perez denied the interaction, but the judge ordered her returned to Lycoming County Prison. Perez is charged with helping her boyfriend, Troy Bailey, conceal the murders of Ronald Dailey and Alicia Seese in January 2024.
DANVILLE POLICE WEARING BODY CAMERAS NOW
Danville police officers are now wearing body cameras; a move officials say will boost transparency and accountability for both officers and the public. According to the Daily Item, the first cameras were being used about two weeks ago, with more officers still being trained. The initiative was finalized in June. Officials say the cameras help build public trust, protect officers from false accusations, and improve evidence collection. Detective Jared Bangs says the technology doesn’t change daily routines but ensures everyone knows interactions are being recorded.
ROUTE 6 OFFICIALLY NAMED A PA SCENIC BYWAY
A four-county stretch of U.S. Route 6 has officially been named a Pennsylvania Scenic Byway. According to PennDOT, the designation for sections of the highway running through Warren, McKean, Potter, and Tioga counties cover 211 miles and making it the state’s longest byway. The recognition follows years of advocacy from the Route 6 Alliance and support from all 34 municipalities along the corridor. A ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the designation will take place October 30 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Courthouse Square in Coudersport. Officials say the status will help protect the area’s natural beauty while boosting tourism and local economies.
LEAF COLLECTION ONGOING IN WILLIAMSPORT
The City of Williamsport’s fall leaf collection is underway and will continue into December, weather permitting. According to the Sun Gazette, crews are collecting loose leaves only—no bags or containers—and residents must place them along the curb on main streets, as alleys can’t be accessed by city equipment. City officials remind residents not to mix in brush, limbs, or other debris, which can damage machinery and slow operations. Residents can also use the city’s mulch pile at 1550 West Third Street. City officials say special pick-ups will not be scheduled.
SHAMOKIN COUNCIL CANDIDATE TO REPORT TO JAIL FRIDAY
A Northumberland County judge has ordered Shamokin City Council candidate Joseph Leschinskie Jr. to report to jail this Friday to begin serving a seven-to-26-month sentence. According to the News Item, Senior Judge Charles Saylor issued the order after the state Supreme Court denied Leschinskie’s final appeals in two criminal cases. Forty-one year old Leschinskie, was convicted of making terroristic threats and unlawfully recording inside the county courthouse. He says he’ll ask for home confinement instead of jail, arguing he’s not a threat. Despite the ruling, Leschinskie remains on the November 4 ballot for Shamokin City Council.
SOME DUPLICATE BALLOTS SENT IN SEVERAL PA COUNTIES
A state review found that 68 Pennsylvania voters were mistakenly issued duplicate mail ballots in recent weeks. According to SpotlightPA, Luzerne County reported 31 of those cases, while smaller numbers were identified in Dauphin, Montgomery, and Carbon Counties. State officials say the duplicates resulted from a mix of system and user errors within Pennsylvania’s SURE election management system. They stress no votes were or could be counted twice, since each ballot envelope carries a unique barcode that flags any duplicates. The Department of State says all extra ballots were canceled, and improvements to the system are being reviewed ahead of November’s election.
MORE PARKING COMING TO PA FOR BIG RIGS
PennDOT, State Police, the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and the PA Motor Truck Association are teaming up to add more than 1,200 new truck parking spaces across the state by the end of 2026. It’s the first statewide expansion of truck parking outside of new construction projects. Officials say the goal is to give commercial drivers more safe places to rest and reduce fatigue-related crashes. PennDOT says the sites will be marked on ramps and weigh stations where safety allows. The expansion follows a 2023 state study calling for more rest options for truckers statewide.
