According to the Sun-Gazette, Mayor Derek Slaughter, now in his second term, said Friday he vetoed the measure, but council can override it with a two-thirds vote. The change means long-serving members like Councilwoman Bonnie Katz would be unable to seek another term in two years. Council members say the move promotes accountability while preserving expertise in technical roles.

LEGISLATURE IN PA TO STRENGTHEN PROTECTIONS FOR CHILDREN AGAINST CSAM
Three Pennsylvania senators are taking aim at a growing digital threat to children. According to North Central PA dot com, senators Tracy Pennycuick, Scott Martin, and Lisa Baker have introduced Senate Bill 1050 to strengthen protections against AI-generated child sexual abuse material, or CSAM. The proposal would require teachers, childcare workers, and healthcare providers to report all instances of CSAM, even if the material involves minors creating it themselves. Lawmakers say advances in artificial intelligence have made it easier for predators to exploit children, and current laws must catch up. The bill builds on earlier legislation targeting deepfakes and is now under review by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
