WEATHER BRINGING ON INTERSTATE RESTRICTIONS
Tier One vehicle restrictions are in place as part of PennDOT’s winter storm response across much of Pennsylvania. The restrictions impact major roadways including Interstates 80, 81 and 180, through Lycoming County and the northcentral region. Certain trucks, RVs, school buses, motorcycles and vehicles towing trailers are prohibited, and speed limits will be reduced to 45 miles per hour. FATAL MOTORCYCLE CRASH IN WILLIAMSPORT
A motorcyclist in his 30s was killed in a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Market and Packer streets in Williamsport, according to city police. Investigators say the rider was traveling north on Market Street Monday afternoon when a southbound Buick pulled out from Packer Street, causing a collision that ejected the motorcyclist into the roadway, where he was struck by a Honda CR-V. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The intersection was closed for about three hours while city police, state police reconstructionists and PennDOT crews processed the scene
PA SENATOR VISITS FORT INDIANTOWN GAP
Pennsylvania Senator Dave McCormick was at Fort Indiantown Gap on Monday. McCormick’s visit comes after a recent report that the base is the largest National Guard training institution in the country. The Republican said more than 100-thousand soldiers from around the world come to Fort Indiantown Gap to train every year. McCormick added that he wanted to visit the base to show support following the shooting in Washington D.C. last week that left one National Guard member dead and another with serious injuries.
BUCKTAIL MUSIC PROGRAM SEEKING MORE BOOSTER MEMBERS
The Bucktail Band and Choir Booster Club is urgently asking parents and community members to step up as declining volunteer support now threatens the future of Bucktail’s music programs. The club helps pay for uniforms, instruments, travel, and performances that give students critical opportunities to succeed. The next booster meeting is Tuesday, December 9 at 5:45 p.m. in the Bucktail High School cafeteria. Anyone interested in helping can contact music director Abby Novak.
FORMER BRADFORD COUNTY OFFICIAL JAILED FOR HARASSMENT
A former Bradford County official has been sentenced after pleading no contest to charges involving repeated unwanted contact with others. Thirty-six-year-old Jeffrey Andrew Rosenheck of Pine City, New York, received a sentence of 63 days to 23 months in the Bradford County Correctional Facility, followed by a year of probation. Prosecutors say Rosenheck, a former emergency management coordinator, harassed another county employee for months and violated protection from abuse orders. The district attorney says the sentence sends a clear message that court orders must be followed.
FUNDS APPROVED FOR LYCO TECH CENTER
The East Lycoming School Board has approved a three-hundred-fifty-thousand-dollar allocation from its construction bond fund to support the Lycoming Career and Technology Center expansion project. The money will help meet matching requirements for a five-million-dollar state redevelopment grant and is expected to be temporary. The board also reported progress on water mitigation work at the high school and reviewed upcoming bond-funded facility projects. Several personnel hires and resignations were also approved.
MONTOUR COUNTY SHERIFF COLLECTING ITEMS FOR FAMILIES IN NEED
The Women’s Center of Columbia and Montour Counties is collecting donations to support local families this holiday season. Donations can be dropped off at the center’s Bloomsburg location at 111 North Market Street, open weekdays from 9 to 5, or at the Montour County Sheriff’s Office on Mill Street in Danville. The center is seeking new, unwrapped toys, gift cards, holiday food staples, and household supplies. However, stuffed animals and toy guns cannot be accepted.
