THREE SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY AFTER SUNBURY ARMED ROBBERY
An armed robbery happened in Sunbury on Tuesday afternoon, the investigation of which locked down parts of Reagan, Race and Packer streets along with a portion of Front Street for a time. According to the Daily Item, three people were arrested for setting up a local man, Cody Martin, who had collected 15 thousand dollars in a workers compensation claim and arranged to use the money to pay for sex. Police say 30 year old Verinique Koteita, 31 year old Wilbert Turner, and 42 year old Henry Morales-Serrano, confronted Martin at gunpoint at a home on the 500 block of Susquehanna Avenue and took the money before he was chased away by Koteita’s husband who had arrived on the scene. They are being held at the Northumberland County Jail in lieu of $100,000 jail.
MAN CHARGED FOR WATER TANKER THEFT
A Muncy man who police say was attempting to steal a 300 gallon water tanker on Antlers Lane last December, waived his preliminary hearing this week. According to the Sun Gazette, state police say 40 year old Joseph William Fioretti was caught on private property in Woodward Township and when confronted drove away from the scene through a cornfield causing about 15 hundred dollars-worth of damage. Fioretti was charged with agricultural vandalism, theft, trespassing and more in addition to having a suspended driver’s license. He is free on 10 thousand dollars bail.
NEW STUDENT REGISTRATION ON NOW AT WASD
Williamsport Area School District has announced that registration for kindergarten and new students is coming up March 17th through 21st. According to the Sun gazette, registration for the upcoming school year will be 8:30am to 3:30pm at the District Service Center, 2780 West Fourth Street and is scheduled alphabetically over the 5 days. SAFETY MILESTONE ACHIEVED FOR PENNDOT
The Snyder County Maintenance Organization, part of PennDOT’s Montoursville-based District 3 has announced they recently reached a significant safety milestone. PennDOT executives say that the organization reached 1,000 days which is 2 years and 9 months without a disabling injury which is any injury that results in an employee missing one or more days of work. This currently is the longest active streak of its kind in District 3 which includes Bradford, Columbia, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, Sullivan, Tioga, and Union counties.
DANVILLE MAN INVOLVED IN A FATAL ACCIDENT
An 86 year old man from Danville died from injuries sustained in a crash on Route 11 on Tuesday just after 3pm. According to the Daily Item, Carl Swisher, was driving north on Route 11 and took a left turn on Grovania Drive in Cooper Township and turned into the path of a southbound pick-up truck driven by 67 year old Louis Sinibaldi, of Orangeville who was not injured. The Montour County Coroner’s Office said Swisher was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported to Geisinger Medical Center where he passed from his injuries Wednesday.
MOTHER CHARGED FOR DRUGGING CHILD, ALLOWING ASSAULT
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Williamsport woman who allegedly gave drugs to her daughter from 2020 til 2022 so that her boyfriend could sexually assault the girl. According to North Central PA dot com, court records say that during the trial for Ashley Rae Kane the victim, who was 6 to 8 years old at the time of the crime, identified the pill in evidence as Xanax. Kane is being charged with endangering the welfare of children and corruption of minors. The boyfriend, Steven Guthrie previously pleaded no contest to the same charges and was sentenced to 2 years. He is now free after serving jail time.
FORUMS TO DISCUSS CLOSURES OF PA PRISONS
With the potential closures of SCI Rockview and Quehanna Boot Camp as part of Governor Shapiro’s budget proposal, state Representative Paul Takac is planning to host 5 community forums to gather public feedback about the changes from March 21st through April 7th. According to North Cetnral PA dot com, the closest forums are March 31st at the Benner Township Municipal Building, in Bellefonte and April 2nd at Schlow Public Library in State College. GRANT FOR BOAT LAUNCH IMPROVEMENTS
In a move to ensure Pennsylvania’s recreational boaters have convenient and high-quality boating facilities, a grant has been announced that will be used to repair the Montgomery Borough boat launch along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. According to Representative Jamie Flick of Union and Lycoming Counties, over 57 thousand dollars from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission’s Boating Facility Grant Program will upgrade the Montgomery Borough boat launch to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act standards, in addition to other planned improvements. Funds come primarily from boat registration fees and state motorboat fuel taxes.
