SIX JUVENILES IN CUSTODY AFTER CAR THEFT IN MONTOURSVILLE
Six male juveniles from Williamsport, ages 13 to 16, are facing charges for a string of car thefts in Montoursville and the city early Monday morning. According to the Sun Gazette, police say the teens stole three vehicles, and lead officers on a brief pursuit that ended when the vehicles collided on Loyalsock Avenue. Police say social media alerts helped officers capture all six suspects by 6am Monday. Three were already on juvenile probation and the others released to their guardians. State police and K-9 units assisted in the arrests. All six juveniles are expected to be petitioned to juvenile court on theft and conspiracy charges.
SOME CHARGES DROPPED FROM FORMER WASD TEACHER CASE
A former Williamsport Area High School student has dropped legal action against suspended teacher Christopher Yoder and district teacher Mel Mitstifer, but five other former students have expanded their sexual harassment lawsuit against the district. According to PennLive, a new complaint alleges Yoder’s classroom was isolated, without cameras or windows, creating a dangerous environment for unsupervised interactions. Plaintiffs say the district allowed Yoder to keep teaching despite knowing of misconduct. Yoder was acquitted in two criminal cases and remains suspended without pay. Both he and Mitstifer deny the allegations.

According to North Central PA dot com, 21 year-old Hailey Gillott received up to 14 years behind bars, with parole eligibility after four and a half years, on seven criminal cases. The charges included aggravated assault of an unborn child, intimidation of witnesses, animal neglect, and terroristic threats. Prosecutors called Gillott’s assault vicious, noting they have not witnessed any remorse from her. Police said they had responded to nearly 40 incidents involving Gillott in the past year.
ORIGIN OF WILLIAMSPORT OIL SPILL LOCATED
Investigators have traced last weekend’s oil spill into the Susquehanna to a corroded 26,000-gallon tank at the former Eureka Resources site, that released an estimated 8,000 gallons of oil-and-water mix into storm drains. The drinking water has been deemed safe. DEP, FEMA, and local crews worked to contain the spill at the shuttered treatment plant. Officials are asking about the cause of the spill, Eureka’s troubled history, past workplace safety violations, and calls from former employees for criminal investigations.
JUDGE SAYS CITY OFFICERS’ PROMOTIONS ARE LEGAL
Two Williamsport police commanders will keep their jobs after a Northumberland County judge dismissed a challenge to their promotions. Lt. Fred Miller argued that Assistant Chief Justin Bolt and Capt. Justin Ottaviano were promoted illegally under civil service rules. But Judge Charles Saylor ruled the city’s mayor has authority to make those appointments, calling Miller’s attempt to remove them “unwarranted.” Miller claims he’s been denied promotions in retaliation for lawsuits, and is appealing the decision to Commonwealth Court. Both Bolt and Ottaviano remain in their posts.
