HOME CAREGIVER CHARGED FOR NEGELCTING PATIENT FOR DAYS
A Lewisburg woman is facing charges for allegedly neglecting her duties as a home caregiver. State police say 36-year-old Danielle Chane Kitchens failed to check on a woman in her care for several days in Kelly Township. When troopers arrived for a welfare check, they found the victim in distress and in unsanitary conditions, unable to respond. Investigators say Kitchens admitted she hadn’t been at the home despite being scheduled to work. She’s charged with endangering the welfare of a care-dependent person, with a preliminary hearing set for October 30th.
FORMER PENN STATE ATHLETE CHARGED WITH MULTIPLE FELONIES
Former Penn State wide receiver and Bloomsburg native Julian Fleming is facing multiple felony charges, including homicide by vehicle while intoxicated, in connection with a May ATV crash that killed his girlfriend, 22-year-old Alyssa Boyd. According to North Central PA dot com, investigators say Fleming was driving on Painter Lick Road in Bradford County when the ATV struck a deer. Neither rider was wearing a helmet, and Fleming’s blood alcohol level was measured at point-one-one-eight. He was arraigned this week and posted $75,000 bail. He has a preliminary hearing set for October 22nd.
UNITED FOR IMPACT DINNER WILL HONOR LOCAL PHILANTHROPIST
The United Way of North Central Pennsylvania will celebrate community leadership and service at its United for Impact Annual Dinner on October 14th at the Holiday Inn in Williamsport. This year’s event will honor Barbara Hudock with the Douglas C. Dickey Humanitarian Award, recognizing her longtime commitment to philanthropy and regional growth. The evening will also debut new Innovation Grants and other community honors, with proceeds supporting United Way programs that strengthen Lycoming, Sullivan, and Tioga counties.
JIGSAW PUZZLE DEPICTING LOCAL COVERED BRIDGE FOR SALE
The Columbia-Montour Visitors Bureau has released its fifteenth annual Covered Bridge jigsaw puzzle, featuring the historic Creasyville Bridge in Columbia County. Only 350 limited-edition puzzles are available for $18, with two dollars from every sale donated to the Columbia County Covered Bridge Association. Puzzles can be purchased at the Visitors Bureau Welcome Center in Bloomsburg or shipped across the continental U.S. The featured photo of the Creasyville Bridge, built in 1881, spans Little Fishing Creek between Jackson and Pine Townships.
PA MAN CHARGED FOR SEXUAL CRIMES AGAINST A MINOR A Lancaster County man is facing felony charges in Lycoming County for recording sexual encounters with an underage girl. According to North Central PA dot com, state police say 29-year-old Daulton William Brewer of Lititz filmed the 15-year-old without her knowledge. The victim reported the abuse in March 2022, saying Brewer continued to record until their breakup in late 2021. Brewer admitted knowing she was a minor, according to court documents. He’s charged with photographing a sex act with a child and criminal use of a cell phone. Judge Gary Whiteman set bail at $25,000 unsecured, which Brewer posted the same day.
POLICE SEARCH FOR PLAYGROUND VANDALS
Sunbury officials are offering a $100 reward after vandals damaged five panels of the new StoryWalk at Fort Discovery Playground. According to the Daily Item, Councilman Jim Eister says the vandalism happened within the past two days and could cost up to $1,000 to repair. The StoryWalk, created in partnership with the Degenstein Community Library, features children’s books displayed along a walking path to promote reading and outdoor activity. Police are reviewing surveillance footage, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Sunbury Police Department.
BILL HEADS TO SENATE TO BOOST RURAL JOB GROWTH
The Pennsylvania House has overwhelmingly passed House Bill 1667 — a measure aimed at boosting rural job growth and investment. The bill, approved 182 to 21, updates the language of the Rural Jobs Investment Tax Credit program to release $50 million in private capital for rural businesses. Sponsor Representative Paul Takac of Centre County says the change will help small communities expand, create jobs, and strengthen local economies. The legislation now heads to the state Senate for consideration.
LEWISBURG ALUMNI WEEKEND THIS MONTH
The Lewisburg Area High School Alumni Association and The Green Dragon Foundation will host the 14th annual Alumni Weekend October 17th and 18th. Events kick off Friday with the “Fire Breathing Dragon Tailgate Pit” before the home football game, followed by live music at an area tap house. Saturday features school tours, events downtown along with an historic walking tour. There will also be a Distinguished Alumni Reception at the Inn at Lewisburg, recognizing this year’s honorees for their lifetime achievements and contributions to the community.
