CONCERNS ABOUT CHICKEN FARM AND SOLAR PANELS ADDRESSED
A hydrogeologist is raising questions about potential groundwater risks tied to a proposed large-scale chicken and solar project in Muncy Creek Township. According to the Sun Gazette, Ricky Henry testified at this week’s public hearing, and said manure runoff from Sunny Side Up Farms could seep into aquifers that feed local wells and streams, including Kiess Run. He warned of possible contamination if waste and storm water aren’t carefully managed. Attorneys for the project countered that state nutrient and erosion control regulations would be followed. Additional hearings for the next solar panel portion of the project hearing is Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. and the next Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 19

Nearby counties, including Clinton, Union, and Northumberland, will also see regular stockings, though no hunting is allowed in the Central Susquehanna Wild Pheasant Recovery Area. Hunters must wear fluorescent orange, carry a pheasant permit, and follow daily bag limits of two birds.
