MORE INFORMATION ON WILLIAMSPORT SHOOTING
There’s more information about a Friday night shooting in Williamsport that left a 15-year-old boy critically injured. According to North Central PA dot com, police say the violence began with a fight at a party on Park Avenue, where 25-year-old Zaire Jones-Wallace allegedly pulled a gun and fired after being attacked during a confrontation involving his ex-girlfriend. Video shows two gunshots and the victim collapsing after being struck. Jones-Wallace later turned himself in and is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and other offenses. He’s being held without bail pending a November 13 hearing.
FIRE DISPLACES FAMILY IN FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP
A mother and her two adult children were left homeless Sunday after a fire destroyed their mobile home in Timberend Estates in Fairfield Township. According to the Sun Gazette, Montoursville Fire Chief Jeff Hutchins says flames were showing when crews arrived around 1 p.m., but everyone made it out safely. Firefighters from five departments brought the blaze under control in about ten minutes. Damage is estimated at $30,000, and investigators say the fire was accidental. The family, who had no insurance, is now staying with relatives.
SULLIVAN COUNTY SHERIFF TO RESIGN
Sullivan County Sheriff Jared Houck has resigned less than a year into his term. According to the Sun gazette, a sheriff’s department spokesperson says Houck’s decision to step down, effective October 22, was personal. Elected in November 2023, he began his four-year term in January, replacing Robert Montgomery. Chief Deputy Nicholas Wingate is now serving as acting sheriff. County commissioners are expected to formally acknowledge Houck’s resignation, and his tentative rehiring as a deputy sheriff at Tuesday’s meeting.
GEISINGER DONATES FUNDS TO PA FOOD BANK
Geisinger Health has donated $275,000 to help Pennsylvania food banks meet rising demand during the federal government shutdown. According to the Daily Item, the funds will support the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and CEO Weinberg Food Bank, which serve communities across Geisinger’s regions. CEO Dr. Terry Gilliland says the donation reflects Geisinger’s commitment to caring for its patients and neighbors during difficult times. The health system is also directing those in need to NeighborlyPA.com for food and assistance resources.
MISSING CENTRE COUNTY TEEN
State police are searching for a missing Centre County teenager who hasn’t been seen in more than two weeks. Seventeen-year-old Rivers Joseph Puissegur of Spring Mills was last seen at his home on Penns Cave Road on October 19. His mother reported him missing after he told her on Halloween that his phone was dying and he wouldn’t be returning home. Police say Puissegur is considered an endangered child. MAN WHO ASSAULTED GAME WARDENS ANSWERS TO CHARGES IN COURT
A Montgomery man was in court this week for a 2024 incident on State Game Lands near the lost village of Alvira. According to the Daily Item, the Pennsylvania Game Commission says 30-year-old Michael James Bartholomew tried to pull a pellet gun on two game wardens and punched one in the face during a July patrol. He was arrested after resisting and now faces felony assault charges and resisting arrest. Bartholomew was released on $25,000 unsecured bail and is due back in court November 18.
WATER PROJECT ALMOST COMPLETE AT EAST LYCOMING
The East Lycoming School District’s long-running water mitigation project is nearly complete. According to the Sun Gazette, Superintendent Dr. Mark Stamm told the school board that power lines near the Little League fields and soccer stadium have been relocated and properly encased, and several cisterns behind the high school are being replaced. Final grading and seeding are expected to wrap up by Friday. The project aims to resolve long-standing drainage and water management issues around the high school complex and athletic facilities, improving safety and infrastructure for students and staff.
RIVER SYMPOSIUM AT BUCKNELL THIS WEEKEND
Experts in environmental policy, watershed science, and stream restoration will gather at Bucknell University this weekend for the 20th Annual Susquehanna River Symposium. Hosted by the Center for Sustainability and the Environment, the event runs Friday and Saturday in the Elaine Langone Center. Organizers say the symposium connects researchers, policymakers, and the public to promote the long-term health of the Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay. Keynote speaker Freida Jacques of the Onondaga Nation will open the event Friday night, followed by student research and public discussions on watershed preservation.
