INCARCERATED MORELAND TOWNSHIP MAN GETS NEW CHARGES FOR BURGLARIES
A Moreland Township man already jailed in Northumberland County is now facing 26 new charges in Lycoming County for a series of business burglaries. According to the Sun Gazette, state police say 32-year-old Jesse Lynn Stackhouse broke into four businesses, including Turkey Hill, Frosty Beverage, Wagging Tail Coffee, and Home Team Auto Clinic in the Muncy area, stealing cash and merchandise and causing nearly $17,000 in damage. Stackhouse allegedly used a pry bar to break in and has confessed to another burglary in Northumberland County. He remains behind bars on additional $50,000 bail.
TEEN SHOT IN WILLIAMSPORT IDENTIFIED
The Lycoming County Coroner has identified the teenager shot and killed in Williamsport Friday night as 15-year-old Brailynn Johnson. According to the Sun Gazette, authorities say Johnson died from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen after being taken to UPMC Williamsport. His death has been ruled a homicide. No arrests have been made, and police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Brittany Alexander or submit tips through Crimewatch.
NORRY UNVEILS THE COUNTY’S AMERICA250PA BELL
America250PA’s “Bells Across Pennsylvania” project made a stop in Northumberland County Wednesday with the unveiling of a 75-pound commemorative bell near the courthouse on Market Street. Each of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties will receive a bell to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026. The Northumberland County bell was painted by Sunbury artist Pedro Reyes, who said he wanted to tell the county’s story through art. County commissioners say the bell will be placed in a prominent public spot ahead of July 4th celebrations.
AGENCIES GET TOGETHER TO DETER DRUNK AND DRUGGED DRIVING
PennDOT joined Lycoming Regional Police, the PA DUI Association, Geisinger Jersey Shore, and local safety partners to kick off “Operation Safe Holiday,” warning drivers about the dangers of impaired driving through New Year’s. According to a news release, roving DUI patrols will target drunk and drugged drivers, especially around Thanksgiving Eve, one of the year’s biggest drinking nights. Last holiday season, PennDOT recorded more than 1,100 alcohol- or drug-related crashes statewide, killing 31 people. Officials urge drivers to “Choose Your Ride” and designate a sober driver. MAN WHO STOLE COMPANY TRUCK ARESTED IN LOCK HAVEN
A Beech Creek man is facing felony theft charges after police say he refused to return his company’s vehicle. According to North Central PA dot com, Mifflinburg Police say 39-year-old Heath Hague took a Nulook Driveway Sealing truck and admitted in a text he wasn’t bringing it back. The company reported Hague was under the influence of methamphetamine before taking the vehicle. Officers tracked it to a Lock Haven hotel, where Hague was arrested. His case has been held for court.
FORMER DA FACING POSESSION CHARGES
Former Northumberland County District Attorney Anthony Matulewicz the Third has been charged after allegedly firing a gun during an April incident he blamed on imaginary intruders trying to steal his dog. According to North Central PA dot com, State police say officers found Matulewicz dirty, bloody, and disoriented, admitting he’d been drinking after firing a shot into the air outside his home. No suspects were found, but police later discovered unprescribed opioid packs and multiple firearms inside. Matulewicz faces misdemeanor charges including possession of a controlled substance, disorderly conduct, and public drunkenness.
GRANT PROVIDES NEW EQUIPMENT FOR MIFFLINBURG POLICE
The Mifflinburg Borough Police Department has modernized its operations with new body cameras and automated license plate readers, funded by a $146,000 state grant. According to the Daily Item, Chief Jeffrey Hackenburg says the new technology will boost transparency, accountability, and public trust. The grant covers a 10-year contract for maintenance and upgrades, replacing outdated cameras and adding instant plate recognition for patrols.
