STATE POLICE SEARCHING FOR ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT
Pennsylvania State Police at Montoursville are searching for a suspect after a possible armed robbery. Just after 6 a.m. Tuesday in Wolf Township, a robbery was reported to Troopers who say a McDonald’s employee making a bank deposit near the Hughesville restaurant was approached by a thin-built man in a black hoodie who claimed he had a knife and demanded the money bag. The suspect fled on foot toward Boak Avenue. Police say there is no immediate threat to the public, and anyone with information is asked to call state police at 570-368-5700.
NEW CITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT
Eric Beiter has been selected as the new president of Williamsport City Council following a vote at council’s reorganizational meeting. According to the Sun Gazette, councilman Vincent Pulizzi was chosen as vice president, while Jonah Milliken was sworn in after a hard-fought campaign. Beiter, who retained his seat after a tied election in November, thanked council members for their confidence and said he looks forward to leading the body in the year ahead. Council’s first regular meeting is Thursday night at seven.
PENNDOT WORKING ON LIGHTING PROJECT THIS WEEK
Motorists in Lycoming County are advised of a lighting repair project scheduled this week on Interstate 180 in Montoursville. Pennsylvania Department of Transportation crews will be repairing lights at the Route 87 on and off ramps today between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. All work will take place on the shoulders, and no traffic impacts are expected. CHURCH PAYS LUNCH DEBT FOR DANVILLE SCHOOLS
Students and families in the Danville Area School District are starting the new year with a clean slate when it comes to school lunch debt. Christ Memorial Episcopal Church donated more than 34 hundred dollars to the district, covering all outstanding student meal balances. Superintendent Molly Nied called the donation a generous Christmas gift that brings relief to local families. The district confirms all student’s lunch account debts have now been fully cleared.
STATE PRISON FOR MAN WHO CAUSED OVERDOSE DEATH
A Lycoming County man has been sentenced to state prison for his role in a fatal overdose case and a string of other crimes. Alex DeJesus pleaded no contest to charges tied to a 2019 overdose death in Loyalsock Township and guilty to multiple additional offenses. State police say DeJesus sold heroin that led to the death of 36-year-old Teresa Holtzman, who later died at UPMC Williamsport from mixed drug toxicity. A judge sentenced DeJesus to 44 to 92 months in prison, plus probation and fines, giving him credit for time already served.
DOMESTIC ASSAULT CASE HELD FOR COURT
A Muncy Creek Township man is being held for court following a reported domestic assault last month. State police say 34-year-old Casey Stidfole is charged with felony strangulation, simple assault, and harassment after allegedly choking and headbutting a woman during a disturbance December 19th. The victim told troopers she feared for her life. Stidfole was arraigned before Denise Dieter, initially jailed, later released on $20,000 bail.
MEDICAL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR POP UP CLINIC IN MARCH
Remote Area Medical is looking for volunteers for a free pop-up clinic coming to Bellefonte at the end of March. The March 28th and 29th clinic at Bald Eagle Area Middle and High School will provide no-cost dental, vision, and medical care to those in need. Organizers are seeking medical professionals as well as general support volunteers for setup, overnight parking assistance, and teardown.
