TWO CITY TEENS JAILED OVER ARMED ROBBERY
Two 16-year-old Williamsport Area High School students are being held without bail after police say they robbed a confidential informant during a handgun deal. Investigators allege the teens offered to sell a gun, then pulled a handgun and stole 400 dollars during a meeting in a car near Second Avenue and High Street. Both juveniles were arrested following a brief foot chase and were found carrying handguns, according to court documents. They are being held at Lycoming County Prison, and will be tried as adults on multiple felony charges.
SELSINGROVE TO WAIVE LATE FEES FOR DELINQUENT SU WATER BILL
Selinsgrove Borough Council has agreed to waive more than 45-thousand dollars in late water fees charged to Susquehanna University if an outstanding bill is paid off over time. The debt, totaling nearly 182-thousand dollars, stems from a billing error dating back to 2019 that went undiscovered until last summer. The Dialy Item reports that under the agreement, the university would repay the full amount in quarterly payments over the next four years.
FARMSHOW FEATURING A MILKSHAKE FLAVORS
The countdown is on for the 110th Pennsylvania Farm Show, which opens this weekend in Harrisburg and runs through January 17th at the Farm Show Complex. Organizers expect about half a million visitors as the event helps kick off Pennsylvania’s America 250 celebrations. New this year, the PA Dairymen’s Association is debuting an America250PA red, white, and blue milkshake flight, along with blueberry milk and other classic Farm Show favorites. Admission is free with paid parking, and the popular food court opens daily at eight.
DREAM WEEK 2026 COMING TO WILLIAMSPORT
Mission Impossible 2026 Dream Week will bring a week of service, reflection, and community action to Williamsport and Lycoming County in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior’s legacy of nonviolence. Events run January 16th through the 25th, leading up to MLK Day, the nation’s only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service. Local groups including STEP, Penn College, Lycoming College, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, and United Way are hosting worship services, children’s programs, a peace walk, educational events, and hands-on service projects throughout the week. SUNBURY MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO ABUSE OF INFANT SON
A Sunbury man has pleaded guilty in Snyder County Court to felony aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children in a case involving severe injuries to his infant son. According to the Daily Item, 24 year old Jeremy Erb Junior admitted repeatedly squeezing the child, breaking several ribs, while caring for him last spring. Erb faces 17 to 30 months in prison at sentencing, while Erb’s mother also faces charges for allegedly attempting to interfere with the investigation.
MIFFLINBURG TO FINALIZE STUDENT RECORD POLICY
The Mifflinburg Area School Board is set to consider final adoption of a policy addressing student records related to name, sex, and gender identity. According to the Daily Item, during this week’s work session, revisions were made to the proposed policy to better protect students, parents, and employee rights, following legal review. The policy limits changes to official records to legal name changes with parental approval and outlines how students and staff are to be addressed in school. Final action is scheduled for the board’s public meeting Tuesday night at 6:30.
PA BUSINESSES ENCOURAGED TO ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY
PennDOT is encouraging Pennsylvania businesses to join its Sponsor-A-Highway program as millions of visitors are expected to travel through the Commonwealth in 2026. Officials say major events like the NFL Draft, FIFA World Cup, and America250PA will bring more than 209 million travelers, putting Pennsylvania in the national spotlight. Through the program, businesses sponsor roadside litter cleanup and are recognized with highway signs displaying their name and logo. PennDOT says the program helps keep busy roadways clean while showcasing local pride to visitors arriving from around the world.
CASTENEA HOSTING THE 2ND ANNUAL CHESTNUT FESTIVAL
The second annual Pennsylvania Chestnut Festival will celebrate the heritage of chestnut trees and the naming of Castanea. The event is coming up Saturday, January 24th, at the Castanea Fireman’s Picnic Grounds near Lock Haven and features chestnut inspired foods, food trucks, live music, vendors, a portable ice rink, and free health screenings. Organizers expect an even bigger crowd than last year, which drew more than 800 people. Musical acts include Family Polka Band and the Anchor and Arrow Duo.
