WARNING FOR TRUCKS FROM PENNDOT
PennDOT is urging truck drivers to limit travel this morning in parts of north central Pennsylvania due to post storm conditions and steep grades. Officials say commercial and large trucks should avoid Route 44 in Lycoming County and Route 54 in Northumberland County as snow and ice continue to impact travel.
FELONY CHARGES FOR LEWISBURG MAN
A Lewisburg man is behind bars after police say he assaulted and strangled a woman earlier this month. According to Buffalo Valley Regional Police, 32-year-old Jared Lee Nicholes was arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges following a January 17 incident at an apartment. Investigators say the victim had visible injuries and told officers Nicholes threatened to kill her and tried to choke her. Bail for Nicholes was set at 75 thousand dollars and he is scheduled to be in court later this week.
SHAMOKIN PARK GETS GRANT FOR PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE
The City of Shamokin has been awarded a 248-thousand-dollar state grant to help build a new pedestrian bridge at Volunteer Park. The funding will support a connector bridge linking Claude Kehler Park to downtown, improving walkability and access to recreation. City officials say the project is part of a larger revitalization plan, with the grant covering about half the total cost. Leaders say they will continue seeking additional funding to complete the project.
NETWORKING EVENT FOR VETERAN FARMERS
Veterans who farm or operate food businesses in Pennsylvania are invited to attend the seventh annual PA Veteran Farming Network conference on February 27. The full-day educational and networking event will be held at the Pennsylvania National Guard Armory in Lewistown. Organizers say the conference will offer general sessions and breakout workshops covering conservation programs, agricultural financing, recordkeeping, soil health, and livestock and poultry production. SPEED LIMITS REDUCED AFTER SEVERE WINTER STORM
Speed limits remain reduced across the region as crews continue dealing with the aftermath of the winter storm. PennDOT says several highways, including portions of Interstates 80 and 180 and Route 220, remain under a 45-mile-per-hour restriction. Officials have also upgraded vehicle limits from Tier 4 to Tier 1, allowing only certain commercial trucks with proper traction while buses, RVs, motorcycles, and vehicles towing trailers remain prohibited. Motorists are urged to avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.
MIDDLEBURG MAN RESISTS ARREST AFTER ASSAULTING WOMAN
A Middleburg man is in the Snyder County Prison on 125-thousand dollars bail after a violent incident in Selinsgrove. According to PA State police, 55-year-old James Adee is charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement, resisting arrest and other offenses after allegedly assaulting a woman and damaging her vehicle on South Market Street. Troopers say Adee then kicked, headbutted and spit at officers while being taken into custody. He was arraigned and remains jailed.
FLOURIDE TO BE TAKEN FROM SUNBURY WATER
Sunbury Municipal Authority customers will no longer receive fluoridated drinking water by the end of September. The authority says it plans to request state approval to amend its water permit, with fluoride removal expected around September 30. The board voted last fall to remove fluoride after employee safety concerns, despite objections from city officials who urged more study. Residents can still submit comments to the state or the authority before a final change is approved.

NASCAR announced a major overhaul of its championship format Monday, eliminating win-and-in rules, playoff rounds, and bonus points.
