RABID FOX ATTACK IN OLD LYCO TOWNSHIP
Lycoming Regional Police have issued a public safety alert after two people were attacked by a fox Tuesday morning in Old Lycoming Township. Officers responded around 8 a.m. to separate incidents near Division Road and Mahaffey Lane, just minutes apart. Investigators believe the fox was rabid and say it showed aggressive, unprovoked behavior. The animal was located and euthanized with the Game commission investigating. Residents are urged to avoid wildlife, keep pets secured and seek medical attention immediately if bitten.
LOCAL LEADERS HONORED AT CHAMBER BANQUET
The Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce marked its 140th Annual Awards Banquet by honoring business leaders who fuel the region’s economy. Barbara Hudock received the Vince Matteo Excellence in Leadership Award, Miele Amusements was named Large Business of the Year, and Ignite Business Services earned Emerging Business of the Year. Outgoing board chair Gabe Sinicropi was also recognized for his leadership, as chamber officials highlighted the vital role local businesses play in strengthening Lycoming County.
GOP LAWMAKER ANNOUNCES TENTH TERM IN PA CONGRESS
Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson has announced he’s seeking reelection to Pennsylvania’s 15th Congressional District for a tenth term. The 17-year incumbent and current chair of the House Agriculture Committee says he remains committed to collaboration and service. Thompson will hold a petition signing event February 21 in Pleasant Gap. Meanwhile, Democrat Ray Bilger of Bellefonte has entered the race, setting up a new challenge in the November election.
ANNUAL MINI-GOLF CLASSIC AT THE GENETTI FOR ROTARY CLUB
The Genetti Hotel and Suites will turn into an 18-hole mini-golf course Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. for the 9th annual Williamsport Rotary Indoor Mini-Golf Classic. The family-friendly event features creative holes like Plinko, skee-ball, and even a hole-in-one contest with a 500 dollar prize. Proceeds support local Rotary projects and ALS research, honoring this year’s chairman, community leader Marc Schefsky.
SCHOOL VAN DRIVER CITED FOR DANGEROUS BEHAVIOR AT THE WHEEL
Police in Coal Township have cited a Mount Carmel Area school van driver following a January 28 crash. According to the News Item, authorities say 41-year-old James Cherry Jr., of Kulpmont, was driving 56 miles per hour in a 40 mile zone, using a handheld phone, not wearing a seatbelt, and failed to stop at a red light. The van struck a vehicle driven by a 91-year-old woman. Two students were checked at the scene and not hospitalized.
BRADFORD JUDGE FACING MORE MISCONDUCT CHARGES
A Bradford County Judge is facing nine new charges filed by the Judicial Conduct Board, bringing the total against him to 34. The latest charges against Judge Jonathan Wilcox, stem from a 2024 letter he allegedly sent on judicial letterhead urging approval of a Protection From Abuse order filed by one of his clerks. Wilcox was previously suspended and is also accused in a separate complaint of attempting to form a romantic relationship with a defendant in a harassment case. He has 30 days to respond to the new charges.
SUSPECT WHO THREATENED GOVERNOR SHAPIRO IN CUSTODY
A Cumberland County man is in custody for allegedly threatening Governor Josh Shapiro and his family. Capitol police said the Governor’s Office received a message from George Brown Junior earlier this month threatening to stalk and hurt Shapiro’s family, followed by another messaged that said “metaphorically speaking.” Brown claims the threat was fake and only an attempt to get the Governor’s attention. He faces multiple charges.
COMEDY SHOW FOR CAT RESCUE IN WELLSBORO
A comedy show to benefit animals in the Northern Tier is coming to Wellsboro. “Comedy to the Rescue” takes place Friday night at the Coolidge Theatre inside the Deane Center. National comedian Clay Foley is donating his performance, with all proceeds supporting the Tioga County Cat Project. A Chinese auction and 50-50 raffle are also planned. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and tickets are available in advance or at the door.

It was high drama in Thursday night’s Duel races at Daytona, as Casey Mears fought through a spin and still raced his way into the Daytona 500. Joey Logano and Chase Elliott won their qualifiers, while a late disqualification shuffled the final starting spots heading into Sunday’s Great American Race.
