LEGSILATION TO REINSTATE MONDAY AFTER THANKSGIVING FOR HUNTING OPENER
Two state senators plan to introduce a bill restoring Pennsylvania’s traditional firearms deer season opener to the first Monday after Thanksgiving. The Pennsylvania Game Commission moved the start date to Saturday in 2019, citing participation goals. But Senators Gene Yaw and Lisa Boscola say the change has hurt rural communities, small businesses and long-standing family traditions. They argue the Monday opener was a community event, with schools closed and fundraisers drawing crowds. Lawmakers say it’s time to bring the tradition back and reinvest in rural Pennsylvania.
