THREE VEHICLE CRASH SENDS ONE TO THE HOSPITAL
A three car crash in the city of Williamsport yesterday afternoon sent one person to the hospital with unspecified injuries. The crash occurred around 4pm in the westbound lanes of Interstate 180 near the Market Street bridge as one vehicle ran into the back of another, pushing it into a third. One person was transported to UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport Regional Medical Center for treatment. Their condition was not released. None of the persons involved in that accident have been identified. It’s is under investigation by Williamsport City police.

JERSEY SHORE DISTRICT TO DELAY OPENING
Another area school district will delay their opening due to mold in some district schools. The Jersey Shore Area School District which announced last week that mold was found due to the rains and humidity this summer was expected to open tomorrow, but during last night’s board meeting it was announced that school will open next week now, though an official opening day has not been determined. A company has been contracted to clean up the mold found in both the Salladsburg Elementary and the High School Building. Parents and district employees are expected to receive more information today.
LANE RESTRICTION ON 15
Route 15 southbound in Old Lycoming Township, just north of the city of Williamsport will be down to one lane today. A contractor is instituting the lane restriction so a diesel fuel/motor oil spill clean up can take place. The work will take place during the daylight hours and Motorists are reminded to be alert and drive with caution through the work zone.
TWO SENTENCED FOR BANK ROBBERIES
Sentencing was held in Northumberland County Court for two men from Shamokin who have entered guilty pleas to the robbery of three Northumberland County banks which occurred between December of 2016 and January of 2017. Richard Snyder and Darren Miller had robbed the BB&T Bank in Kulpmont and Riverview Bank in Treverton in December of 2016 and then the Santander Bank in Elysburg in January of 2017 . They both pleaded guilty to multiple counts and after apologizing in court yesterday, Snyder was sentenced to 2 ½ to 12 years in State Prison and Miller 4 to 10 years in state prison.
THEFT FROM DANVILLE AREA HOTEL
A Danville area hotel is out a large amount of money following a theft there last week. The theft happened overnight from August 20th to the 21st as an unknown person took a night deposit bag containing a little more than $871 dollars from the Quality Inn in Valley Township near Route 80. Milton State police say they are investigating and are asking anyone with information regarding that theft to give them a call at 570-524-2662.
ENGINEERING FIRM STOPS WORK
Williamsport City officials say they are looking into, what is being termed as non-payment to an engineering firm which was hired by the city to help with the levee recertification. The firm, Wood had been working on designing relief wells and other important aspects of the levee project of which they would them have to report to the Army Corps of Engineers by February of next year. The firm which is working on a contract approved in March not to exceed $67,950 dollars has reported they haven’t been paid in months and stopped work about a week ago.
REGISTRATION FEE DISCUSSED
Some 50 people turned out to a meeting in Lock Haven last night to discuss the possibility of a $5 dollar registration fee on vehicles registered within Clinton County. Many of those in attendance voiced an opinion that they were against the fee, questioning County officials as to where the money would go once it’s collected. Commissioners say one reason for the fee is to help out municipalities who don’t have the money for critical road projects and who don’t want to raise resident’s taxes.
STUDY COMMISSION PRESENTS FINAL DRAFT CHARTER
The Williamsport Study Commission presented a final draft charter during their public hearing in the city last night. The Commission which is getting set to finalize a draft concerning a home rule plan which wil be placed on the fall ballot for city voters to consider, has put forth a plan which would see an elected mayor and seven person council, but would also have a city manager nominated by the mayor and approved by council. They say the mayor and council would be elected by city voters with the mayor having reduced responsibilities to include economic development.
REAL ID UPDATE
Pennsylvania is getting closer to having to deal with the REAL ID act and yesterday, PennDOT released an update. The Department of Transportation says that approximately 35% of residents who have received their initial licenses after 2003 have their documents online, but those who do not would have to bring the require documents to a licensing center beginning on September 1st That includes proof if ID which would be an original or certified copy of their birth certificate with a raised seal or valid U.S. Passport, Proof of Social Security number, Proof of all legal name changes and two proofs of current PA physical address. Real ID’s will be available in March of 2019.
