POLICE RAID SUSPECTED DRUG DEALER’S HOME
An early morning raid resulted in several felony arrests in Williamsport yesterday. According to the Sun Gazette, the city’s Special Response Team took Kyiem Bradshaw, Bryheem Bradshaw and Hakeem Lomax of 641 Fourth Avenue into custody for multiple drug and gun offenses. Police recovered two stolen loaded handguns, cash and drugs prepared for sale at the property and officials said the raid was a result of an extensive investigation surrounding the home. All three suspects were arraigned in District Court and incarcerated at the Lycoming County prison.
TIOGA COUNTY MAN IN FATAL WRECK
A 36 year old Westfield man died in a vehicle crash on Route 287 in Tioga County this week. The Pennsylvania State Police said Charles Cornelius Umble was driving south on Route 287 near Maries Lane in Middlebury Center around 3pm Tuesday and went out of control after negotiating a left turn and rolled over into a swampy area of the grass on the shoulder of the road. Umble was pronounced dead at the scene. The 2007 Dodge Ram Pickup came to final rest on it’s roof. Police say speed and heavy rain were contributing factors in the crash.
DRUG DISPOSAL EVENT PLANNED
The Muncy Township police Department and the US Drug Enforcement Administration will be holding an unwanted prescription drug disposal event in Lycoming County. In a press release, the Muncy Police department announced the event to give the public another chance to rid their homes of potentially dangerous, unused or expired prescription drugs at the Sam’s Club on Lycoming Mall Road in Pennsdale. The free DEA take back service – going on 10 til 2 on Saturday, October 26th , is anonymous with no questions asked.
AUTHORITY EXTENDS FREE PARKING TIMES
Acting upon a request by business leaders in the city yesterday, the parking authority in Williamsport expand free parking hours for upcoming events and the holidays. According to the Sun Gazette, the authority said metered parking will not be enforced beyond 3pm from Thanksgiving to Christmas, and the same goes for First Fridays. Parking is not enforced on Saturdays in the city.
SCAMMER CAUGHT IN NEW YORK
There’s been an arrest of a person who scammed a Lycoming County resident out of over 14 hundred dollars last year. Twenty-one year old George Stainrod of Queens County, New York was identified receiving the transfer of money at a Walmart in Valley Stream New York on September 25th, 2018. The sum is what he told his victim was required so could receive the car and prize money. According to North Central PA dot com, the Moreland Township man told police he got multiple phone calls about the scam at his home a week before he transferred the money to the suspect.
PARENTS FILE WRONGFUIL DEATH SUIT AGAINST HOSPITAL
A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed by the parents of a newborn who died at Geisinger’s neonatal ICU last month after they say the hospital knew the NICU was dangerous but hid the fact from parents. WKOK reports that Abel Cepeda, the 5 day old baby who died September 30th, was the third infant to die from the infection in the facility. Geisinger diverted premature infants and mothers expecting to deliver prematurely to other hospitals as they worked to identify the outbreak. Geisinger made no statements expect expressing their sympathies to the affected families
FUNDS PROMISED FOR NEW SEWER SYSTEM UPGRADES
The sewer system in Northumberland County will get a boost by some state money appropriated for Commonwealth infrastructure projects. Mount Pleasant is in line for a sanitary sewer system and extension line through Upper Augusta Township and will receive a 250 thousand dollar loan and almost 3 million dollar grant. Governor Tom Wolf said in a statement that the money will be through PENNVEST.
SEMINAR PLANNED TO EDUCATE SENIORS
A Senior Scam Seminar hosted by Pennsylvania State Representatives has been announced for next month in South Williamsport. Representatives Garth Everett and Jeff Wheeland will offer the seminar to senior residents in order to educate and empower them on the common threats they face from phone scammers and criminals who are getting more sophisticated as technology grows. The State Attorney General will make a presentation about the Top 10 Scams targeting Seniors. The free event is for seniors in the 83rd and 84th districts, and will be held in the River Walk Senior Center on East Central Avenue in South Williamsport November 1st from 1-3.
MULTIPLE OPIOID OVERDOSES BEING INVESTIGATED
Milton Police are investigating a rash of non-fatal drug overdoses in Northumberland County. According to North Central Pa dot com, police in Milton responded to an overdose in a local parking lot and suspected the incident was suspected to be caused by an unknown opiate. At this time, police did not say that the drug included fentanyl, but say they are investigating more than that one opioid incident in the Valley area.
