FATAL ACCIDENT IN NIPPENOSE TOWNSHIP
One person is dead following a violent two-vehicle crash on Route 44 near Morgan Valley Road in Nippenose Township. Lycoming County Coroner Charles Kiessling Jr. says a young man driving a passenger car was killed when his southbound vehicle collided with a northbound pickup just before six o’clock Thursday night. The young man was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup’s driver and two passengers were trapped, then taken to UPMC Williamsport in unknown conditions. Lycoming Regional Police detoured traffic while they investigated the crash.
SENTENCING FOR HUMAN REMAINS TRAFFICKERS
Two New Hampshire residents have been sentenced in a disturbing federal case with ties to Bloomsburg and central Pennsylvania. Cedric Lodge, a former Harvard Medical School morgue manager, was sentenced to eight years in prison for stealing and selling human remains, while his wife received just over a year. Prosecutors say some of the remains were shipped into Pennsylvania and resold by Jeremy Pauley, formerly of Bloomsburg, who has already pleaded guilty and is scheduled for sentencing later this month. Federal officials say the crimes victimized grieving families and involved interstate trafficking of stolen remains.

FARM SHOW OFFICIALS GETTING READY FOR THE 110TH ANNUAL EVENT
The Pennsylvania Farm Show is gearing up to kick off the new year in Harrisburg, with final preparations underway for the 110th annual event at the Farm Show Complex. Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding says the 2026 show, themed “Growing a Nation,” will once again highlight Pennsylvania’s massive agriculture industry with more than a million square feet of exhibits, competitions, demonstrations, and hands-on education. Fan favorites like the butter sculpture, Farm Show Food Court, Sheep-to-Shawl, livestock events, and cooking demonstrations all return January 10th through the 17th. MAN CHARGED AFTER BODY FOUND IN HOME
A 34-year-old man is facing charges after police found the body of a woman inside an Old Lycoming Township home. Lycoming Regional Police say officers went to the Catherine Drive residence in late August to check on 66-year-old Debra Hiller, and noticed the smell of decomposition while walking through the house. Hiller was found dead in her bedroom and later determined to have died of natural causes about a week earlier. Douglas Goodwin was arrested this week on a misdemeanor count of abuse of a corpse, accused of staying in the home for days after her death. He was released on bail.
POLICE SEEKING HELP IN KULPMON SHOOTING CASE
Police are now asking the public for help after a man was shot in the woods, possibly by someone target shooting. Mount Carmel Township Police say the shooting happened around 3 Friday afternoon in an area known as the Black Dessert, abandoned coal land between Kulpmont and Strong. A 24-year-old Kulpmont man was shot in the chest and flown to Geisinger in Danville. FLICK ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR NON-PROFITS IN LYCOMING COUNTY
More than seventy-four-thousand dollars is heading to Lycoming County nonprofits through a state tax credit program. According to State Representative Jamie Flick of South Williamsport, the funding comes from Pennsylvania’s Neighborhood Assistance Program, which encourages private investment in community services. STEP Incorporated will receive sixty-seven-thousand-five-hundred dollars to support housing and case management programs for families in crisis. The American Rescue Workers of Williamsport will receive just over seven-thousand dollars to launch a mobile food pantry serving low-income residents across the county.
ARW TO GIVE OUT MEAL BOXES TO FAMILIES IN NEED TODAY
Volunteers from local businesses and organizations will gather today at American Rescue Workers in Williamsport to help serve families in need with preparations for their holiday meal. The Christmas food distribution runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or until supplies run out, at ARW facility on Elmira Street, with no pre-registration required. Officials say 800 boxes will be distributed, each with a ham or turkey, produce, dry goods, milk, eggs, bread, and stuffing, and residents are encouraged to come early.

* Former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle and his family were among seven people killed in a plane crash in Statesville, North Carolina.
* The 55-year-old Biffle, his wife Cristina, 14 year old daughter Emma, and son 5 year old Ryder, died in the crash. Others on the plane were identified as Dennis Dutton, his son Jack, and Craig Wadsworth.
* Picked by NASCAR as one of its top 75 drivers in history, Biffle was a Hall of Fame nominee for the stock car series and he drove for 18 years at the top of the sport.
