One teen made it to shore, while firefighters used ropes to pull the other two from the icy water near Sylvan Dell Road. Two teens were taken to UPMC Williamsport for evaluation, and all are expected to be okay. Fire officials say the ice was dangerously thin.
DEATH ROW MURDERER RESENTENCED TO LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE
A convicted murderer who spent more than three decades on death row has been resentenced in Northumberland County. Fifty-three-year-old Kevin Marinelli was given life in prison without parole Friday for the 1994 killing of Conrad Dumchock of Kulpmont. A judge approved the new sentence after Marinelli agreed to drop all remaining appeals, ending a case that stretched more than thirty years and sparing him from the death penalty.
VOTERS TO DECIDE ON HOME RULE CHARTER
Williamsport voters will decide in the May 19th primary whether to create a government study commission to explore a possible move to a home rule charter. City council approved placing the ballot question, which would ask voters to elect seven members to study the city’s current form of government and determine whether home rule makes sense. According to the Sun Gazette, state officials say home rule could improve financial stability, reduce reliance on property taxes, and give the city more local control. If approved, the commission’s members would ultimately be chosen by voters.
