ANIMALS RESCUED FROM MIFFLINBURG PROPERTY
Nearly forty animals have been seized from a Union County property after concerns about their welfare. The Pennsylvania SPCA says 39 animals, including dogs, cats, and goats, were removed December eighteenth from a home on Old Turnpike Road in Mifflinburg following a referral from the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Dog Law. Investigators say several animals were underweight and suffering from untreated medical conditions. The animals are now in PSPCA custody, and the investigation into possible cruelty and neglect remains ongoing.
LOCK HAVEN FIRE DESTROYS TWO UPPER FLOOR APARTMENTS
Lock Haven firefighters battled a two-alarm structure fire Saturday night on East Water Street. The According to the Record Online, crews were alerted just after 6:30 to fire showing from the third floor of a building at 136 East Water Street and began suppression and a search for victims. As conditions worsened, additional crews from surrounding communities were called in. The fire was brought under control around 10 p.m. No injuries were reported, but two third-floor apartments are uninhabitable, with damage estimated at about two-hundred-thousand dollars. The cause remains under investigation.
LOST MONEY RETURNED BY A STRANGER
A holiday-season act of honesty led to a happy ending in Old Lycoming Township. The Lycoming Regional Police says a customer found five-hundred dollars in cash in the parking lot of the CVS on Lycoming Creek Road and immediately turned it in. Officers worked to identify the owner and successfully returned the money. Police praised the good Samaritan, saying the gesture reflects strong community values especially during the holiday season.
CANDELIGHT CHRISTMAS EVE IN LOYALSOCK TOWNSHIP
Pine Street United Methodist Church is inviting the community to a candlelight Christmas Eve service Wednesday at five p.m. in James Short Park. NEW YORK MEN STOPPED ON I-80 WITH ID THEFT SUPPLIES AND DRUGS
Two New York City men are facing multiple felony charges after state police say they planned to use stolen IDs and checks to withdraw cash from Ohio banks. Pennsylvania State Police say the pair were stopped just after midnight December fifteenth on Interstate Eighty in White Deer Township. Troopers found drugs, fake identification cards and blank checks during a search. Both men were arraigned, posted bail, and are scheduled for a preliminary hearing January sixth.
CASE CLOSED ON 4-H COW DEATH IN UNITYVILLE
A highly emotional Lycoming County case stemming from the 2020 killing of a child’s 4-H cow has officially come to an end. According to PennLive, 65-year-old Gary Colatosti of Unityville has had his record expunged after completing an accelerated rehabilitative disposition program. Prosecutors said the cow escaped from a neighboring farm, was later found killed and dismembered, with investigators tracing blood and remains back to Colatosti’s property and pickup truck. Judge Nancy L. Butts ruled Colatosti met all program conditions, closing the case and sealing court records.
NEW WAY TO SAVE FOR THOSE ON DISABILITY
Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity says more Pennsylvanians with disabilities will soon be able to save money through the PA ABLE program. Starting January first, eligibility expands to include people whose disability began before age forty-six, up from the previous limit of twenty-six. The change follows federal action and opens access to thousands more residents, including veterans. SEVERAL COUNTIES OFFERING FREE AI TRAINING FOR STUDENTS
