WARRANT OUT FOR COUPLE WHO DEFIED RENTAL AGREEMENTS
Two people from Williamsport are facing felony theft charges after police say they failed to make payments on rented furniture and cell phones. State police in Milton say Dominique Mathis Alford and Lapeace Rashid Upshaw stopped paying Majik Rent-to-Own in Kelly Township after taking possession of nearly 86-hundred dollars in items. Investigators say both signed rental agreements, made little or no payment, and never returned the property. Warrants have been issued for felony theft of leased property.
PSP INVESTIGATING A SKIMMING DEVICE IN MILL HALL
State police are investigating a theft after an ATM skimming device was discovered at the Pilot Travel Center in Mill Hall. Troopers say the device was placed on an ATM inside the store on Nittany Valley Drive late November 25th and removed the following afternoon. Surveillance video shows a suspect dressed in black installing the device, which was used to steal card information. Anyone with information is asked to contact State Police at Lamar as the investigation continues.
NEW SHERIFF IN LYCOMING COUNTY TODAY
A new era begins for the Lycoming County Sheriff’s Office this week as Eric Spiegel prepares to take over the top law enforcement post. Spiegel will be sworn in Monday at 10 a.m. at the Lycoming County Courthouse, along with Chief Deputy Sheriff Keely Mahosky. He becomes the county’s first new sheriff in 15 years and just the fourth person to hold the position in more than six decades, following the retirement of longtime Sheriff Mark Lusk, who served for more than a decade.

Code Blue in Williamsport will be open every night starting tonight, providing a warm, safe place for people experiencing homelessness. The overnight shelter, operated by First Church at 604 Market Street in Williamsport, accepts guests from 9 to 10pm and provide a meal and a cot until 7:30 most mornings, providing a welcoming space out of the cold. NURSE SUING NORRY JAIL OVER SEX DISCRIMINATION
A Pennsylvania nurse has filed a federal lawsuit alleging she was wrongfully fired because of her gender following incidents at the Northumberland County Jail. According to the News Item, Emma Conville of Pottsville claims her employer, PrimeCare, and Northumberland County terminated her in August of 2023 without notice after her jail security clearance was revoked. The suit says a male correctional officer involved in the same incidents was allowed to keep his job. Conville is seeking at least 75-thousand dollars plus punitive damages.
DISCUSSION ABOUT FLOURIDE ADDITIVES IN SUNBURY TOMORROW
Members of the Sunbury Municipal Authority and city officials will meet tomorrow to discuss whether to reconsider removing fluoride from the city’s water system. The meeting comes after Mayor Josh Brosious and Councilman Jim Eister asked the authority to take another look at its October decision and hear from medical professionals. The authority previously voted to remove fluoride after workers raised safety concerns handling the chemical. Officials say the discussion will take place during the authority’s regular meeting on January 6.
HOLIDAY CRASH DETAILS FROM STATE POLICE ANNOUNCED
The Pennsylvania State Police report more than one-thousand crashes during the 2025 Christmas holiday travel period. PSP says between December 24th and 28th, troopers investigated 1,007 crashes statewide, six of them fatal, with impaired driving linked to more than 50 crashes. Troopers arrested 207 drivers for DUI and issued more than 1,500 speeding citations. State police say the enforcement statistics reflect only incidents they handled, and officials continue to urge safe driving during busy holiday travel periods.
JERSEY SHORE LIBRARY TO SHORTEN HOURS OVER FUNDING LOSS
The Jersey Shore Public Library is operating under reduced hours starting today after losing about 33-thousand dollars in local funding. According to the Sun-Gazette, Library Director Charlene Brungard says the cut makes it impossible to maintain previous staffing and hours. The change comes just months after the library marked its 75th anniversary. The library still offers books, digital resources, and Wi-Fi hotspots, with updated hours and services posted at jsplpa.org.
