PROSTITUTION CHARGES FOR A MONTOURSVILLE SPA OWNER
A Montoursville investigation has led to prostitution charges after a police raid on a Broad Street home. Officers say a tip from a patron helped uncover an alleged brothel operating as Jia Yuan Spa. Authorities say Luiping Li is charged with promotion of prostitution and is being held on 250-thousand dollars bail. Investigators also recovered money hidden inside a cereal box. Additional charges are pending for another woman, while the man involved was not charged. Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
FATAL MOTORCYCLE CRASH
A 34-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon in Columbia County. Police say Ajay Woodward of Numidia lost control of his Harley-Davidson along a bend on Route 42, also known as Numidia Drive, while heading south from Catawissa. Investigators say skid marks show he laid the bike down before hitting a guardrail. Woodward was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency crews responded around 4:45 p.m., shutting down the roadway between Kulp and Slabtown roads for several hours during the investigation.
9/11 ARTIFACT COMES TO SHANKSVILLE
A powerful piece of 9/11 history is coming to western Pennsylvania this week. A 16-thousand-pound steel beam from the South Tower of the World Trade Center will arrive Thursday at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville. The beam, transported by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, will be on public display starting at 10 a.m., followed by a ceremonial tribute at 11. Officials say the exhibit honors the victims of the September 11 attacks, first responders, and service members who made the ultimate sacrifice. The traveling memorial continues its nationwide tour later this month.
SPECIAL OLYMPICS TORCH RUN COMING TO WILLIAMSPORT
The Flame of Hope is set to travel through Williamsport next week as Special Olympics Pennsylvania hosts its Hometown Torch Run. The event takes place Tuesday, May 12, starting at the Wendell Hall parking lot at Lycoming College and ending at the Davie Jane Gilmour Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology. About 30 law enforcement officers will join athletes and volunteers to carry the torch along the two-mile route. A community pep rally with food, music, and games will follow at Penn College, as athletes gear up for the Special Olympics Summer Games in June.
NO INJURIES IN PLUNKETS CREEK FIRE
New details are emerging after a house fire in Lycoming County destroyed a home but left the homeowner unharmed. Officials say a retired Plunkett’s Creek resident was asleep when flames broke out on her wrap-around porch Sunday night along Route 87. She was awakened by her dog around 9:30 and safely escaped. Crews arrived to find the two-story home fully engulfed, with parts already collapsing. The home is considered a total loss with damage topping 150-thousand dollars. Firefighters worked for hours to control the blaze, and a state police fire marshal is now investigating the cause.
THREE ALARM HOUSE FIRE DISPLPACES TWELVE
