APARTMENT FIRE DISPLACES OVER TWO DOZEN RESIDENTS
Firefighters in Williamsport rescued residents and pets Sunday after a two-alarm apartment fire displaced at least two dozen people at the Mary Slaughter Homes on Brandon Place. Officials say the fire started in a second-floor apartment and filled parts of the 27-unit building with smoke, while crews also revived two unconscious cats with oxygen after carrying them from the structure. No injuries were reported and the cause remains under investigation.
COUNCIL TO DELAY DECISION ABOUT JUVENILE CURFEW
City leaders in Williamsport are delaying proposed changes to the city’s juvenile curfew after residents and council members raised concerns about stricter rules and steeper fines. The proposal would lower curfew for minors from 11 p.m. to 9 p.m. and increase penalties for violations, but council voted to table the measure for further discussion with community groups, youth mentors, police and city leaders before bringing it back for a vote.

FIRE FLOAT EVENT COMING TO LOCK HAVEN IN JUNE
The Lock Haven Fire Department is bringing back its annual Fire Float event next month along the Susquehanna River. Organizers say the second annual float will take place Saturday, June 20, starting at 11 a.m., with participants traveling from Hanna Park to the Lock Haven City Beach alongside local firefighters. SENTENCING FOR WOMAN WHO ASSISTED IN BRADFORD CO HOMICIDE
A Bradford County woman has been sentenced for her role in the 2024 murder and dismemberment of a man whose body was later chopped up and burned. Prosecutors say 51-year-old Ronda Marie Parker received 15 to 40 years in state prison after being convicted of third-degree murder in the death of Michael Pruitt. Investigators say Parker helped lure Pruitt to her home, where her estranged husband later ambushed and killed him.
ALLEGED ARSONIST CHARGED WITH SETTING SHAMOKIN FIRE
Police in Shamokin have charged a city man with arson after investigators determined he set the massive North Franklin Street fire earlier this month. Officials say 62-year-old Joseph Reichner was badly burned in the May 4 blaze that displaced up to 13 people and left several homes uninhabitable. Reichner faces multiple felony charges, including arson and risking a catastrophe. Reichner continues recovering from his injuries in the hospital.
911 CENTER DISPATCHERS GETTING GUIDANCE SYSTEM
The Lycoming County Commissioners have approved a new agreement aimed at improving emergency response at the county’s 911 center. Officials say the Priority Dispatch system will guide dispatchers through standardized questions and allow them to provide consistent life-saving medical instructions to callers before first responders arrive on scene. The five-year program is expected to cost just over 100-thousand dollars and will be reimbursed through Pennsylvania emergency management funding.
NEW FLAGS FOR MILTON BRIDGE
The Milton Rotary Club has donated a new set of American flags to the Borough of Milton to replace those flying along the Gov. James Pollock Memorial Bridge. Borough workers are expected to install the flags before Memorial Day, continuing a tradition the Rotary Club has supported since the bridge dedication in 1987. Club leaders say the project is meant to promote patriotism, unity and community pride during the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary celebration.
